Summer Learning Journey Week 4 Day 4 Activity 2

Watch this short clip from Country Calendar. What do you think would be the most interesting and/or challenging things about being a farmer? Would you would like to be a farmer when you are older. Why/why not? Give us, at least, two reasons to support your answer.

You have to be okay with getting up early, you have to do it every single day and be really committed to your job. I think most interesting is how they used horses and this sort machine to brake into the land.

Would I like to be farmer when Im older no, because as silly as it sounds I would like to be a model when Im older, I would like to travel the world and work with different clothes brands.

Hi Jolie,

I can tell that you really gave this task some thought, you’ve made sure to include two good reasons as to why you wouldn’t want to be a farmer too, well done. I agree with the point you made about being committed to the job, that is a good attitude to have towards a career. Have you thought about the different kinds of knowledge farmers have to learn to do their job effectively? Remember that they work with land and all sorts of animals..

I too think it is interesting to see farmers using horses and a plough to plough the land. They often use Draft Horses that specialise in physical labour work because they are so big! Do you know why they plough the land? Let me know in the comment section below.

Toe feiloa’i fo’i,

Cia.

Hello Jolie
I completely agree with you. To be a farmer means getting up really early and going to bed until late almost every day of the year. Perhaps another reason being that you would never get a break. You would have to work 24/7, 365 days in a year. Is there a reason why would want to be a farmer?
