Charles Heaphy
Charles Heaphy was a Auckland Rifle Volunteer and he
earned his Victoria medal by rescuing a solider
under fire at Waiari, near Te Awamutu Charles was given his medal
in 8th Febuary 1867.

Wow! That's absolutely worth a VC! It's amazing how brave these soldiers were. I'd like to think I'd have the same bravery as they did, but it's hard to know until you're faced with the same situation.
What other kinds of things do you think these men were given VC's for?
