Completing the winter Learning Journey.

On friday last week I came first place for completing all 21 activities for the WInter Learning Journey.
I was very proud of myself and I cant wait for the Summer Learning Journey.

ACCELERATION.

In this term I am going to accelerate in.

1. Maths

Because I am still trying to achieve my goal which is getting a 5B. I am going to pay attention and work hard.

2. Writing

Because I got a 3A which is below my standard. To get a better score I am going to practise and learn.

Winter Learning day 3 Bonus activity.

In this picture I have drawn a skull of a moa, A baby Moa playing in its egg,Moas poo and A Moa itself.

Winter Learning Journey Day 7 Activity 1.

Three things we could do to keep New Zealand clean and beautiful.

(1) Carry a bag with us and put our rubbish in the bag when we are finished.











(2) Put more rubbish bins around. But the ones with the flaps. Just to make sure that the rubbish dosent fly away.


(3) Make adds about putting rubbish in the bins or keeping it to themselves.

Winter Learning Journey Day 6 Bonus Activity.

For me  Haka #2 was the best because the actions were amazing.

I think Haka #3 was the second best because I loved their facials.

And Haka #1 was not that good (Im sorry) because the facials and actions were not on point.

Winter Learning Journey Day 6 Activity 2

1. At Matariki you can watch the Kapa Haka groups perform, Look at the seven stars and watch fireworks.

The very first thing you can do is watch the kapa haka groups sing and dance.

The second thing you can do is look at the seven stars through a telescope.

And the last thing you can do is watch the fireworks go into the sky.

Winter Learning Journey Day 5 Bonus activity.

I would ride my bike on the Otago Central Rail because it sounds really fun and I think it would be good exercise. Also if youre going with youre family then it would be a good family bonding time.

Cliff curtis appeared in Three KIngs with george clooney.

I chose Cliff Curtis because he is in one of my favorite TV series called Fear the Walking dead.

Winter Learning Journey Day 5 Activity 1

It was Freezing and I was scared I had no idea what was going to happen next. I started walking around and then I saw sun set. Every direction I looked it was either trees or a bunch of bushes. I built a tent knowing that I was going to be here until morning. I made a fire using some sticks that I found while walking around. As the sky faded into a dark blue I put my hands over the fire to keep myself warm. I go to sleep hoping that my group comes to find me. In the morning I woke up with a bunch of people in my face. When I sit up I realise that its my group, I was so happy to see all of them I thanked them for finding me and we went back home.

Winter Learning Journey Day 4 Bonus Activity.

I think we should stop fishing at Farewell Spit because when people are fishing they are probably catching native fish.  We should also stop fishing there because they are killing and capturing hector dolphins. The population of hector dolphins are around the number 7,000. In this picture a baby dolphin was killed by someone's boat propeller. That Is why I think we should stop fishing at Farewell Spit.

The Whale rider.

The Whale rider is based on a very special girl. Her brother died and then her mother gave birth to her. She was named paikea. In their her history the first born would ride on a very special whale. But sadly it had to be a boy. Which Paikea was not.

Winter Learning Journey Day 4 Activity 1.

This is what people do to save beached whales on Golden bay.

 They start off by keeping the Whales wet so that they stay hydrated. Then they cover them in t-shirts and towels. They also cover the blow hole to make sure nothing gets in it. they also dig a hole to make sure that the Whales are not lying sideways and that they are laying up straight.

Winter Learning Journey Day 3 Activity 2

A possum.

I dont think we should kill possums.

1. I mean yes they may eat native birds,leaves and berries so that the birds have no food but they haven't hurt a single human being (I think).

2. Possums are very cute but they are nocturnal. Nocturnal means they are only active at night. Before everyone kills them shouldn't we atleast give them a chance. Dont you think?

3. Maybe if we weren't so scary and used there fur for clothes and killed them for possum pies then maybe they will behave more.

Winter Learning Journey Day 3 Activity 1.

I have adopted a Morepork. If you dont know what a more pork looks like, here is a picture.

A morepork is a native bird in New Zealand.

Moreporks eat Insects like Weta,Huhu beetles,moths and cicadas.

Sometimes the Morepork would grab roosting birds at night well they're sleeping and then eat them.

The Morepork normally lives in tree hollows so that the females can lay there 3 eggs in the months of October and November.

The Morepork has more than one name
The other names are: RuRu,Bookbook and the New Zealand Owl.

I asked my sister Starz what she liked to do most outside and these are her answers.

Winter Learning Journey Day 2 Activity 1

Dargaville sounded like a very cool place, so I decided to learn more about it. I learnt that it has many maraes around the river. I then learnt that Joseph McMullen was the one who established the township. Back in 1870 they did Kauri felling and gum digging. I believe that Kauri gum could be made into many things like statues and jewellery.

The most beautiful place that made me gasp was Karekare Beach. I like looking at it because of the way the smooth sand and the sunset just mixed together, it looked so pretty. This beach is a nice beach to go to when it's Matariki. I would go there every day when its summer. This beach is very popular and beautiful that is why everyone should come here and have a great experience.

I have decided to design my flag like this, because of all the men and women who went into war and didn't make it out. I designed it like this because I dont want them to be forgotten ever. The colours I chose were White, Blue and red because they are the colours of the original flag.

Winter learning journey Day 1 Activity 1.

3 Facts.

1. Four hundred years earlier than Christopher Columbus the Maori culture travelled around the world in a Waka looking for land like the one that we know today as New Zealand.

2. New Zealand has invented a bunch of things, For instance, AJ Hackett created the bungee jump isn't that amazing. New Zealand has also invented, frozen meat,electric fences, the Hamilton jet boat,stamp vending machines,The tranquilizer gun, fastest motorbike in the world and the Electric petrol pump.

3.Only 15% of kiwi families own boats. 

School in the 1840's - Howick historical museum

Rooms 8 and 7 went to the lesson that was teaching us about what happend a long time ago at schools. She said that girls would leave school at about the age of 12. They left school so that they could find a nice husband. She also said that if kids wrote with their left hand they would tie it behind their backs so that the kids would learn how to write with their right hand. That is very crazy.

Wooden toys from the 1840's - Howick historical museum

My classroom (room 8) went with room 7 to play with toys from the 1840's. Mostly every toy was made out of wood. There was only 1 toy made out of metal that toy was the most expensive in there days. It was really fun playing on the stilts because how taller you felt. I really liked this activity.
